Questions, answered honestly
The things small organizations usually want to know before they reach out.
How much does a website cost?
Every project is a little different, so I give you a clear, fixed quote before any work begins. No hourly surprises and no hidden fees. The first conversation is free, and if a simpler or cheaper option fits what you need, I'll tell you. You'll always know the full cost before you commit to anything.
Do I own my website?
Yes. The site, the domain, and the content are all yours. I set up accounts in your name where it matters, so you're never locked in or dependent on me just to access your own property.
What if I want to leave, or work with someone else later?
That's completely fine. Because everything is in your name and built on standard tools, you can hand it to another person or company at any time. I'd rather you stay because the work is good, not because you're stuck.
Do I need to know anything technical?
No. Handling the technical side and explaining it in plain language is part of the job. You'll understand what's being built and why, without needing any background in it.
How long does it take?
It really depends on the scope. A simple site can be ready in a few days to a couple of weeks, mostly depending on how quickly we can sort out content and feedback. Larger projects take longer. Either way, I'll give you a realistic timeline with the quote, not an optimistic one.
What happens after the site launches?
This is the part a lot of freelancers skip. I stick around to keep your site updated, secure, and working. We can set up ongoing maintenance, or you can just reach out when you need something, whatever fits your situation.
What about hosting and the domain?
I can set up and manage hosting and your domain for you, or work with whatever you already have. Either way, the accounts stay in your name, so you keep control.
Who do you usually work with?
Mostly small organizations that don't have their own technical person: local businesses, nonprofits, and mission-driven teams. If you're not sure whether you're a fit, just ask. The first conversation is free.
Where are you based, and do you meet in person?
I'm based in Bellevue, WA and work with organizations across the greater Seattle area. Most of the work can be done remotely, but I'm happy to meet in person when it helps.
What if I just have a question and don't know what I need yet?
That's one of the best reasons to reach out. A lot of my work starts with someone who knows they need something but isn't sure what. I'll think it through with you, even if you don't end up hiring me to build it.
